WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Taking seven shots on goal and scoring three times was a winning recipe for Notre Dame College as they get their second win and second shutout of the season, defeating West Liberty University, 3-0, on Thursday night.
Notre Dame's first shot on goal came off the foot of sophomore
Nicholas Felician in the 23rd minute, but WLU goalkeeper Noah Underwood was able to keep the ball out of the net. However, junior
Varis Singh Khera converted five minutes later to put Notre Dame on the scoreboard. Khera was getting good looks in the first half and recorded three shots.
With 11 minutes remaining in the first half, senior
Giulio Bellei found freshman
Ned Dry who struck from about 18 yards out and found the back of the net. Notre Dame went into the locker room with a 2-0 advantage after 45 minutes.
Notre Dame's third and final goal of the game came on a penalty kick by junior
Evans Armah, 18 minutes into the second half. Tonight's goals represented the first goal of 2019 for all three players.
The Falcons offense did not let up as NDC still took seven shots the rest of the way, pelting the Hilltoppers defense and Underwood.
West Liberty's only shot on goal of the game came in the 66th minute when Daniel Rovira's shot was saved by senior
Daniele De Angelis.
Nine Falcons took at least one shot tonight. Khera led the way with five and freshman
Giovanni Mazzaretto had three shots and one shot on goal. A lot of players saw time on the pitch with substitutions throughout the contest. In all, 22 players saw action.
For WLU, Underwood saved four shots. Rovira led the way with two shots taken.
Next up for the Falcons will be a home match against Concord University on September 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
