SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – A strong attack and solid defense by the Notre Dame College women's soccer team held the Lake Erie offense at bay. But the Falcons were not able to convert on the pressure they put on LEC and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The NDC offense out-shot the Storm 12-0, including a 5-0 difference in shots on goal. Head coach
Mike Shiels credited his defense with solid play, but also praised his offense and midfield from keeping the ball away from Lake Erie's attack for the majority of the contest.
"I think a big reason we didn't allow a shot was what happened in front of our back four," he said. "They did a great job of getting pressure and stopping anything of quality coming in. What our defense did well was that they didn't make mistakes, they kept things simple and covered well for each other."
Notre Dame kicked things into gear in the second half, and throughout the two overtimes. The Falcons recorded eight shots in the final 65 minutes of play and rarely saw the ball cross into the wrong side of the center line.
Leading the NDC offense was
Kazarie Kephart and
Katja Josipovic with three shots each.
Madison Luckett performed well off the bench with two shots on goal.
Notre Dame begins Mountain East Conference play on Thursday, September 19, at West Liberty. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
