Game Recap: Baseball |

Notre Dame comes up short at Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - After rescheduling games over the weekend, the Notre Dame College baseball team traveled to West Virginia Wesleyan for a pair of make up games in which NDC would still be considered the home team. The Bobcats, playing on their home turf, were able to win both games by two runs.

In game one, West Virginia Wesleyan got on the board quickly with a run in the top of the first inning. They would score again in the fourth, but this time Notre Dame responded as Lukas Thompson hit home plate to make it a 2-1 game. Wesleyan would score again in the sixth and seventh and was only matched once by the Falcons in the sixth inning as Nick Farrell drove in Rick Phillips

The Bobcats won 4-2 in a game where many balls were put into play. The teams combined for just six strikeouts throughout the contest, four of which came from NDC starting pitcher Ty Shoaff

Game two had the same fate as the first game as Wesleyan won 6-4. But the Falcons were able to gain control of the game at one point. After trailing 2-0, Notre Dame scored four runs in the third inning to go up 4-2 before allowing four runs to the Bobcats throughout the remainder of the game. Zach Santoro started off the Falcons scoring spree with a two-run double. He was later brought home by Joseph Paskell after Phillips hit in Thompson.

The Notre Dame pitchers doubled the strikeouts of WVWC as both Chris Murphy and Todd Marshall waved three batters each.

NDC will play a four-game series against West Liberty this weekend, April 6 and 7. The home contests at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio are scheduled to begin at 1 and 3 p.m. both days.
