Game Recap: Baseball |

Falcons earn two wins in day one against WLU

AVON, Ohio – In the first doubleheader of a four-game series against West Liberty, the Notre Dame College baseball team won both contests by one run. The Falcons came ahead 3-2 and 2-1, respectively, after strong pitching and clutch hitting.

In the first game of the day, NDC was able to score right away with a run batted in by Nick Farrell in the first inning. But the Hilltoppers tied things up 1-1 in the top of the second before then taking a 2-1 lead in the fourth.

Responding, in turn, Notre Dame tied the score again after Naja Garcia secured a trip to home base on a wild pitch. Two innings later, Joseph Paskell hit an RBI single to bring in Zarek Simkovich, which would end up being the go-ahead run.

Earning the win in game one was Tyler Gault who struck out eight batters in six innings. With just one earned run allowed, Gault has brought his ERA below 4.00. Pitching the final inning, and earning his third save of the season, was Todd Marshall. Marshall struck out two on his way to recording the most saves in a season since 2016.

Game two also required a slight comeback from Notre Dame after West Liberty scored a run in the top of the first. Both teams were scoreless after the opening run before the Falcons put up two to win in the sixth inning.

Paskell tied things up with a sacrifice fly before Farrell drove in the game winner. Both of Farrell's RBIs in the two games scored Zach Santoro, who reach first four times with two hits and two walks.

Kenny Pierson was on the mound for all seven innings for NDC and earned a complete-game win after allowing just one run. He struck out five of the WLU batters.

Notre Dame will play West Liberty again tomorrow, April 7, in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
