SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Fighting for the No. 2 seed in the Mountain East Conference North Division, the Notre Dame College baseball team was able to win both games in its first doubleheader at top-seeded Shepherd.

In game one, the Falcons won were able to score big late in the contest to win 6-3. Going into the fifth inning, the game was tied 3-3. NDC was able to score three runs in that inning after
Naja Garcia hit a two-RBI single up the middle before
Matt Richards batted in another run with a single through the left side.

Notre Dame started off the game strong with two runs in the first inning as
Rick Phillips and
Nick Farrell scored
Zach Santoro and
Joseph Paskell.
Adam Purdy was also able to bring in Paskell in the third inning. But with a run in the first and two in the third from Shepherd, the Rams were able to tie it up 3-3 going into the fourth.

Pitching for the Falcons in the first game was
Tyler Gault, who earned his sixth win of the season after striking out five batters.
Todd Marshall came in to relieve Gault in the seventh, and final, inning of the game to earn his fifth save of the year. Marshall also came in to end the game in the second contest, which puts both his season and career saves number up to six.

Marshall is now tied for second-most saves in NDC single-season history and tied for third-most in career history.

Kenny Pierson spent the first six innings of the game two on the mound to earn the win in a close 5-4 decision. Pierson struck out a pair of batters to secure his fourth win of 2019.

The NDC offense came through in the fourth inning after trailing 3-0. The Falcons were able to score all five of their runs in the fourth inning to gain a big enough lead to carry through to the end.

Lukas Thompson started the scoring spree with a two-RBI single. Garcia followed it up with another two-RBI hit, doubling to left center. Garcia totaled four RBIs on three hits throughout the day. Garcia was then able to score the fifth run of the inning on a passed ball.

Notre Dame will play Shepherd again tomorrow, April 28, at 1 and 3 p.m.
