SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – After winning both games in Saturday's doubleheader, the Notre Dame College baseball team may not be able to call Sunday's win against Shepherd an upset. The Falcons split games on day two to win three of the four games while on the road against a team receiving votes to be ranked in the top 25.
It was a close affair in the first contest as NDC pulled out a 2-1 win to secure a victory overall in the series. Notre Dame scored early as
Naja Garcia batted in
Lukas Thompson before scoring himself in the second inning. The 2-0 lead was enough to take the Falcons to the winner's circle after pitcher
Ty Shoaff surrendered just one run.
Shoaff earned a complete-game victory and struck out seven batters on his way to his sixth win this season.
Game two went to the home team as Shepherd was able to escape the weekend with one win. The Rams made it count, outscoring their visitors 14-0.
Nick Farrell provided the offensive highlights for the Falcons as he totaled three hits in three at bats. Garcia,
Adam Purdy and
Joseph Paskell also recorded multiple hits on the day with two each.
Notre Dame will go into its final week of the regular season with a 16-12 record in the MEC and a 22-24 overall record. The Falcons will look to push themselves above .500 on the season and secure a second-place finish in the MEC North Division.
NDC will play at Urbana on Friday, May 3, at 1 and 3 p.m. before hosting a doubleheader on Sunday, May 5, also at 1 and 3 p.m.
