ATHENS, W.Va. - After a 12-2 loss in game one, the Notre Dame College baseball team recovered with a 6-3 win in game number two at Concord.
The Mountain Lions had things rolling offensively in the first game of the day, opening the game with five runs in the first inning. Overall, CU would score 12 runs on 18 hits throughout the contest.
Notre Dame was also able to get on base with 10 hits of its own, but the Falcons were only able to score two runs. Zarak Simkovich was responsible for both runs of the game as the junior from Mars, Pa. drove one run in and score another.
The Falcons were the first to score in game two as NDC put up two runs on the board in the top of the first.
Joseph Paskell hit a two-RBI single to get things going for Notre Dame. Paskell would later drive in another run in the seventh inning to help his team to a three-run victory. The Solon, Ohio native now has a hitting streak of 19 games and has recorded a hit in 20 of his 22 game appearances this season.
Lukas Thompson and
Corey Miley also each batted in a runner. Miley, a true freshman, stepped to the plate for the first time as a Falcon against Concord. He recorded three hits in seven at bats. Along with his RBI, he scored a run and stole a base.
Zach Santoro also had a strong day in the batter's box with a pair of hits in each game. Two of his four hits were of the extra-base variety as he rounded first for a double and a triple.
Tyler Gault pitched a complete game to earn the win, striking out four batters and allowing just two earned runs.
Notre Dame returns to Avon, Ohio on Saturday, March 30, for a home doubleheader against Glenville State. The Falcons and Pioneers are set to compete at 1 and 3 p.m.
