Falcons battle at UVa-Wise

WISE, Va. – The Notre Dame College baseball team lost two close games at UVa-Wise its first road MEC games of the season. NDC fell in both contests by just one run.

The Falcons started things off offensively in game one as Joseph Paskell and Zach Santoro drove in a run in the first and second inning, respectively. The 2-0 lead did not last long, however, as the Cavaliers score a pair of runs in the third inning to tie the game up.

In the fifth inning UVa-Wise's David Thomas hit what would be a game-winning RBI single through the right side to put his team up 3-2.

Ty Shoaff threw the first 5.1 innings and allowed just one earned run. Todd Marshall would relieve Shoaff in the sixth inning for two outs, both coming via strikeout.

In game two it was the Cavs who started things off. UVa-Wise scored five runs in the first two innings to take a four-run lead after Paskell hit a solo home run in the second.

The trend of scoring a single run continued for Notre Dame as the Falcons scored also scored one in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings to tie everything up at 5-5.

NDC kept on rolling in the top of the eighth inning with another solo home run from Ryan Kosmynka to take a 6-5 lead. But the Cavaliers defended their home turf and scored two in the bottom of the inning to win 7-6.

Notre Dame will travel to Concord University tomorrow, March 24, for a 1 an 3 p.m. doubleheader.
