Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Luckett delivers golden goal at Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va - After a late goal to tie things up 1-1, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team used the momentum to complete the comeback victory in overtime at Glenville State to win 2-1 late in the season.

Things were pointing in Notre Dame's way in the first half as the Falcons were able to get six shots on goal, but all were saved by GSC goalkeeper Morgan Smailes. On the other end, the Pioneers had only attempted three shots until the final seconds of the game. With just over 10 seconds left on the clock, Chelsey Midkiff took a corner kick that wound in to the net with six ticks to spare.

Going into halftime down 1-0, the Falcons were motivated to get their offense going. In the second half, NDC took 19 shots to Glenville State's one. Smailes would record nine saves to keep her team in it, including a save on a penalty kick taken by Notre Dame. But the onslaught Smailes faced would ultimately be too much. The GSC keeper saved a shot attempt by Notre Dame and the ball bounced back to Lauren Chaney who put it in on an open net.

With less than 13 minutes to play, Chaney tied things up for her team. Neither team would score in the first overtime, despite Notre Dame out-shooting its opponents 5-1. And it only took one shot in the second overtime to put things away and send NDC home with a victory.

Again a ball played off the goalie gave Notre Dame an opening. Madison Luckett came in strong after a set shot from NDC was deterred to hit the ball through and end the game.

Notre Dame will play at Concord on Wednesday, November 6, in its final road game on the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
