ATHENS, W.Va. - The Notre Dame College women's soccer team battled 16-1 Concord on Wednesday afternoon down to the wire before the Mountain Lions escaped with a 2-1 win at home after a double-overtime goal put them ahead.
After going down 1-0 in the first half, NDC came back to tie things up with a goal in the 54th minute.
Ellie Gess scored her third goal of the season to put the Falcons right back in it.
Notre Dame's defense and goal keeper
Jordan Pasalaqua stood up to the test brought on by the leading goal scorers in the Mountain East. Concord attempted eight shots in both the first and second half, but NDC turned away all but one with Pasalaqua recording six saves.
After both teams were held scoreless in the final 36 minutes, the contest went into overtime. It was just the second time this season, and the first in MEC play that Concord was taken into extra time.
The Falcons and Mountain Lions were each able to get a shot off in the first overtime, but neither shot was on goal. Concord was able to pressure NDC in the second overtime earning one corner kick before ultimately scoring on the only shot taken in OT2.
Notre Dame, now 8-5-4 (7-4-3 MEC) will look to clinch the No. 2 seed in the MEC North Division on Sunday, November 10, against Urbana. The home game, when the Falcons will celebrate Senior Day, is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
