Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fairmont State escapes with a double-overtime win

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – A double-overtime tight contest in the rain resulted in a 1-0 loss for the Notre Dame College women's soccer team. Fairmont State came out on top after a free kick into the box set up an FSU goal.

The teams matched up well, which did not come as a surprise after the two Falcon squads tied 1-1 earlier in the season. Both teams attempted eight shots while NDC led the corner kicks difference by just one (4-3).

After 90 minutes of regulation, both defenses held tough to go into overtime tied 0-0. Fairmont State recorded three saves in the first two periods while Jordan Pasalqua stopped four shots on goal.

Neither team got much going in the first overtime as both offenses were held to zero shot attempts. In the second overtime, FSU found the net after a free kick sent into the box was headed to Kellie Norris who gathered the ball for a solid shot.

"I was really happy with how the team came out and competed," head coach Mike Shiels said "I really felt like we had a chance to come away with something, but we didn't finish the couple chances we had. We gave up a goal that we were a little disappointed in, but I can't fault the team for how hard they played."

Notre Dame will be back in action on Sunday, November 3, for a 2 p.m. game at Glenville State.
