FROSTBURG, Md. - After allowing a goal in the fifth minute at Frostburg State, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team came back to win 2-1 to claim lone possession of second place in the MEC North Division with just four games remaining in the regular season.
The Falcons (7-3-4, 6-2-3 MEC) tied things up in the first half with a goal from
April Gaukin in the 31st minute. With an assist from
Isabel Sentle, who would go on to score the game-winning goal, Gaukin was able to put NDC right back in the game.
Notre Dame was able to maintain possession as Sentle played the ball well to get it to Gaukin who finished with a shot on the underside of the crossbar.
The second half was all NDC as the Falcons out-shot Frostburg State 8-1. Sentle found the back of the net on her only shot attempt of the game after fighting for a ball served into the box by
Alyssa Soltis.
With the 2-1 victory against the Bobcats, Notre Dame is now on a five-game winning streak.
"It was great to see the team have to play from behind and react to giving up an early goal," said head coach
Mike Shiels. "They responded well and we had some good performances today, in particularly Izzy gave us a big lift contributing on a goal and assist."
Goalkeeper, Jordan Pasalqua improves to 5-1-1 on the year after facing five shots on goal and saving four.
Notre Dame will next host Fairmont State, who is currently in first place in the MEC North. The Wednesday, October 30, contest will kick off at 3 p.m.
