Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Last second shot pushes Shepherd past Falcons

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Notre Dame College women's basketball team lost 82-81 on Thursday evening after Shepherd made a basket with 2.3 seconds on the clock to close out the game. The back-and-fourth contest saw 15 lead changes throughout the 40 minutes of play, which was capped off by two lead changes in the final six seconds.

Things stayed fairly even throughout the game as Shepherd took a lead four minutes into the game, but never held a lead larger than seven points. The Rams won the first quarter 22-21 and the teams had an even 17-17 second quarter to make it a 39-38 SU lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, NDC was the team to come up on top of a 22-21 quarter to make it an even 60-60 going into the final 10 minutes. The Falcons took the lead in the fourth quarter with a three from Kyleigh Ramlow to start things off. NDC would build its lead to five points, but could not hold off the home team from coming back.

From the NDC lead of 71-66 with 6:10 left to go, Shepherd went on a 13-4 run to go up 79-75 with 2:13 on the clock. The Falcons trailed for the next 127 seconds until Ramlow bookended the quarter with a field goal as the clock read 00:06 with the score 81-80 in favor of Notre Dame. The Rams then responded with a shot of their own to turn things back to an 82-81 lead with 2.3 seconds to play.

Out of a timeout, head coach Lauren Macer drew up a play to find one of her players wide open under the basket. But the last second shot was too strong and missed as Shepherd won the game.

Seina Adachi led NDC with 26 points while Ajia McIntyre had 14 and Ramlow scored 12. Jessie Stout secured eight rebounds and blocked three shots to go along with her 11 points, and Katie Karalic had a team-high six assists.

With a trio of three pointers, Ramlow joins Adachi in the top 10 in NDC career three-point field goals made with 113. Adachi is currently eighth with 129.

Notre Dame will play at Fairmont State on Saturday, January 19, at 2 p.m.
