Notre Dame defeats Cleary University by eight goals

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio –Notre Dame College secured their first home victory of the season, on Saturday afternoon, beating Cleary University 20-12.

The Falcons (3-6) allowed the first goal to Cleary but then got off to a hot start, scoring four straight goals. Freshman Abigail Plewes scored two of the goals.

After Cleary's Bonnie Emmerling netted a goal with 10:22 remaining, making the score 7-4, the Falcons then scored five of the last six goals in the half. Junior Taylor Henderson scored two of the goals during the run.

NDC led Cleary 12-5 at the half.

The Cougars (4-10) came out strong in the second stanza and went on a 4-1 run, cutting the deficit to four goals, 13-9. Bailey Wilson went on the attack and scored two of the four goals for CU to begin the half.

Between the 22:46-mark and the 14:50-mark in the second half, NDC scored six straight goals to go up by 10, 19-9.

Notre Dame ended up outscoring Cleary 8-7 in the second half and won by a score of 20-12.

"Today was a great team win. Several people contributed to our success today and it was a great boost as we head into conference play," head coach Pam Jenkins said.

Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Belting picked up the win and had seven saves for Notre Dame. Henderson scored six goals for the Falcons after taking 17 shots in the game. Freshman Natalia Gardner scored four goals on four shots and Plewes scored four goals. Senior Bailey Reardon had four caused turnovers and freshman Jalin Spears caused three turnovers.

Sydney Dickerson had three goals and one assist for Cleary while Wilson, Hana Barnett and Isabel Carr all scored two goals. Brooke Graham won 12 draw controls.

Notre Dame will travel to the University of Charleston on April 13. The game is scheduled to begin is 4 p.m.
