CHARLESTON, W.Va. – On Friday afternoon, Notre Dame College started Mountain East Conference play on the road against the University of Charleston, but fell 21-4.
The Golden Eagles (7-4, 1-0 MEC) scored the first 11 goals of the game, including three in a row by Samantha Youngman. She had four goals during the run by Charleston, to start the game.
Notre Dame (3-7, 0-1 MEC) got on the board with 15:47 remaining in the first half when senior
Katherine Elsenbeck put the ball in the back of the net. Charleston went into halftime with a 15-1 advantage.
In the second half, junior
Taylor Henderson scored back-to-back goals for NDC and freshman
Bridie Schmalz scored the final NDC goal.
For NDC, Henderson had two goals and two draw controls. Freshman
Natalia Gardner won three draw controls.
Youngman scored seven goals for UC and Aryanna Jones tallied four goals and four assists. Emma Renda also scored four goals. Kyra Tye earned five saves while allowing only four goals. The Golden Eagles only turned the ball over three times.
The Falcons will travel to Wise, Va. to battle the University of Virginia's College at Wise on April 15. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
