WISE, Va. – On Sunday, Notre Dame College was defeated by the University of Virginia's College at Wise by a score of 15-4, in their second conference game of the season.
UVa-Wise (8-4, 2-0 MEC) started strong and went ahead 7-0 by the 12:42-mark in the first half. Freshman
Abigail Plewes scored NDC's only goal of the first half, on an assist by junior
Taylor Henderson.
The Cavaliers would tack on one more point with a goal with 6-minutes to go. They went into halftime leading, 8-1.
McKayla Grasham, Jesse French and Kristin Gobbi each had two goals in the first half, for UVa-Wise.
Notre Dame (3-8, 0-2 MEC) got their second goal from Henderson, cutting the deficit to nine, 11-2. NDC scored three of the last seven goals in the game. Freshman
Emily Thomson and Henderson scored Notre Dame's last two goals.
For the Falcons, Henderson had two goals on four shots and won three draw controls. Senior Katherin Elsenbeck and freshman
Alexas Barone each grabbed four groundballs. Freshman
Morgan Belting recorded 14 saves.
French had four goals for UVa-Wise while Grasham and Hannah Marshall each had three goals. Rachel Cole won six draw controls and Sydney Steinberg scooped up nine groundballs. The Cavaliers totaled 10 assists, as a team.
Notre Dame will start a three game home-stand beginning on April 20 against West Virginia Wesleyan College. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
