HUDSON, Ohio - The Notre Dame College baseball team lost 6-1 and 6-5 against Shepherd on Sunday afternoon at Hudson High School. The Falcons were able to score first in each game, but the Rams came back in both contests.
In game one,
Naja Garcia was able to score in the third inning after
Lukas Thompson stole second and Shepherd committed an throwing error. After giving up a 1-0 lead, the Rams scored the final six runs, which included two in the fourth inning, three in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Kenny Pierson, who threw six innings, struck out four batters while giving up just three earned runs.
Todd Marshall pitched in relief and struck out two batters without allowing a hit in his one inning.
Notre Dame got things going in the second game as well, scoring the first five runs of the competition. Again, it was a throwing error on a steal attempt that allowed the Falcons to score first, this time advancing
Ricky Phillips from second to home in the second inning. In the third,
Drake May singled to center field to score two runs before
Nick Farrell drove in a run on a fielder's choice to go up 4-0. To keep the scoring streak going, Leo Well drove in
Austin Barnhart on a hit to the short stop to give his team a five-run lead.
Shepherd was able to climb back again, however. This time, the Rams scored six runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Nick Atkinson.
May, Wells and Garcia each recorded two hits in the second game to lead NDC. In game one, Thompson recorded two hits to lead the Falcons.
Chris Murphy had a solid showing on the mound in the final two innings. The sophomore allowed just one hit while striking out three batters.
Notre Dame will host its final home games of the season on Friday, May 4, in Avon, Ohio. The Falcons will take on Urbana in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. NDC will honor its seniors on Friday as well.
