URBANA, Ohio – Notre Dame College and Urbana University split their double-header on Wednesday afternoon with two, completely, opposite results. In game one, the Blue Knights won 9-1 and in game two, the Falcons were victorious by an 8-0 decision.
In the first game, Notre Dame (13-26, 9-15 MEC) trailed 1-0 in the top of the third inning, when senior
Amy Hoover tied the game. Junior
Halli Swiger started the two out rally with a single and then scored on Hoover's two-bagger.
Urbana (7-35, 5-19 MEC) responded quickly in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five runs. Two runs were plated on wild pitches and three scored on three RBI singles.
The Blue Knights plated three runs in the sixth inning, to go ahead 9-1.
Five Urbana hitters had a multi-hit game. Riley Curtis had three hits and Mykee Holtz had two hits and three RBI. Both batters hit a double. Kayleigh Pate (4-10) got the win after allowing one run on three hits in six innings.
NDC bounced back in a big way in game two. Again, the Falcons got on the board in the top of the third inning with an RBI double by Hoover, which scored Swiger, with two outs.
The Falcons blew the game open in the sixth and seventh inning. In the sixth, sophomore
Ariel Linberger singled with runners on second and third base, scoring both. Later in the inning, sophomore
Alyssa Larson singled on a bunt and a run scored on a throwing error. Larson scored two batters later on a fielder's choice off the bat of junior
Samantha Flowers, putting the Falcons up 5-0.
In the top of the seventh inning, junior
Shelby Stephens plated two with a double to left field. Stephens later put the Falcons on top by a score of 8-0 by scoring on a wild pitch.
The first four hitters in NDC's lineup combined to collect seven hits and five RBI. Hoover had three hits. Freshman
McKenzie Zigmont (7-6) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing four hits. Urbana had four runners in scoring position in the game and only one runner reached third base. This was Zigmont's third straight complete game and third consecutive win.
Notre Dame will play Lake Erie College, tomorrow, on Normandy Field. The first pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 2 p.m.
