INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Notre Dame College scored four runs in the sixth inning, but their comeback fell short in game one as they fell to West Virginia State University by a score of 7-5. In game two, the Falcons scored all of their runs after the fourth inning in a 3-1 victory.
In the first game, WVSU (25-15, 13-9 MEC) plated four runs in their first at-bat. Madison Rafuson was hit by a pitch and Emily Moore walked, both with bases loaded, scoring a run. Alliyah Pullins singled to center, scoring two runs.
NDC (12-25, 8-14 MEC) responded with a run in the third but the Yellow Jackets put three additional runs on the scoreboard in the fifth inning.

Halli Swiger singled in freshman
Mikayla Grajczyk. With runners on first and third, senior
Myranda Rowland singled in a run. Another run scored on a misplayed ball by second baseman Micca Mirabella and then sophomore
Ariel Linberger knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Falcons trailed by two runs, 7-5.
The first two batters in the NDC lineup, seniors
Amy Hoover and Rowland, combined for seven hits for Notre Dame. For West Virginia State, Zoey Carte, Brookelyn Hale and Pullins added two hits. Pullins tallied three RBI, as well. Moore (11-5) picked up the win after pitching seven innings allowing five runs, three earned, on 15 hits.
In game two, neither team scored until the fifth inning. Freshman
McKenzie Zigmont singled and then Swiger and Hoover both walked. With bases loaded, Rowland singled to score a run and junior
Shelby Stephens hit a sacrifice fly to left field, putting Notre Dame on top 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets cut the lead in half with one run in the fifth inning, but NDC put a run of insurance on the board, when Zigmont hit an RBI single, scoring junior
Nicole Luciano, in the sixth.
Zigmont and Linberger both went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Hoover and Rowland each had two hits. In the pitcher's circle, Zigmont (6-6) earned the win, allowing one run over seven innings and striking out five batters for Notre Dame.
For WVSU, Kayleigh Thompson, Hale, Brittany Allison and Shian Meeks all recorded two hits.
Notre Dame will play Urbana University, in Urbana, Ohio, on April 18. First pitch for game one of the double-header is scheduled for 3 p.m.
