AUBURNDALE, Fla. – After a weather delay kept the team from Florida, the Notre Dame College baseball program finally made it down to compete at the Russmatt Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
In their first game of the trip, the Falcons fell 15-0 to Walsh as the Cavaliers were able to score six runs in the fourth inning and seven in the eighth. Starting pitcher
Tyler Gault got through four innings before turning things over. In his mound appearance, Gault struck out six batters.
Chris Murphy took over from there to pitch three innings, giving up just one hit while striking out two.
Leadoff hitter,
Drake May was able to record two hits in three at bats to lead and NDC team that tallied nine hits all together.
Next up for Notre Dame was No. 7 Minnesota State. Senior
Josh Armbruster would get the start and finish the game against the top 10 opponent, but the Mavericks proved to be too strong, winning 4-1.
MSU's offense had things going early with its four runs scored in the first three innings. From there, Armbruster settled in, lasting five more innings for the Falcons' first complete game of the season. The right hander struck out nine batters in his eight innings on the mound.
In the fourth inning, Ryan Kozmynka doubled to center field to bring in
Adam Purdy, but that's where the scoring stopped for both teams. Kozmynka also earned two walks for to get on base in three of his four appearances.
Notre Dame will play Walsh again on Thursday, March 8, at 10 a.m.
