SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – On a rainy Thursday afternoon, Notre Dame College fell to Siena Heights University by a score of 16-6, as both teams struggled to control the possession, at times, because of the wet surface.
In the first five minutes, Siena Heights (7-2) turned the ball over four times and one of the miscues led to a Notre Dame (2-6) goal by sophomore
Blaike Windsor with 25:43 remaining in the first half.
The Saints would score the next five goals before NDC's
Emily Thomson scored with 15:30 to go, cutting the deficit to three points, 5-2.
Freshman
Selena Carter scored Notre Dame's final goal of the half at the 4:48-mark, making the score 6-3.
Siena Heights led 8-3 at halftime with Kayla Parks scoring three of the eight goals.
The Saints scored three times to start the second half, but the Falcons stopped the run with a goal by freshman
Abigail Plewes with 15:21 left. NDC was a player-up on the scoring try, because Mackenzie Fisette was given a yellow card.
SHU then went on a 5-1 run with Jenna Sommerville scoring twice. With 4:18 left in the game, Siena Heights led 16-5.
The Falcons would score one more goal with about a minute to go, making the score 16-6.
"We started off the game strong, which is a great improvement for our young squad, and as the season progresses we will continue to put the pieces together to reaching our full potential," said head coach
Pam Jenkins. "We have to continue to trust the process."
For NDC, six different players scored one goal. Sophomore
Victoria Martin had six ground balls and six caused turnovers along with three draw controls. Freshman
Morgan Belting saved nine shots while in goal.
Kayla Parks had five goals on eight shots, four ground balls and four caused turnovers for Siena Heights. Sommerville and Marissa Cirino both score four goals. Riley Winn caused four turnovers. The Saints went 6-for-10 on free position shots.
The Falcons will play Cleary University on April 7 on Normandy Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
