Game Recap: Baseball |

Falcons fall in first home series

AVON, Ohio – The Notre Dame College baseball team lost two games against UVa-Wise Saturday afternoon.

Game one started with a pitching duel as starting pitchers Tyler Gault and Joe Catalani kept the scores at zeros through the first four innings.

The Falcon scored the first two runs in the bottom of the fifth with Zach Santoro batting in a run and the Cavaliers allowing another run on an error.

After five innings, NDC held on to a 2-0 lead and Gault would come out of the game after allowing just two hits.

"Tyler pitched well," head coach Len Barker said. "His arm was a little tight, which is why we took him out after five innings, but he threw well. He kept us in the game early."

The teams were silenced once again on offense in the sixth inning, but the Cavs found their bats in the seventh and final inning as they put up four runs. Down two, NDC would try to gain back their lead, but fell short after scoring one on a wild pitch resulting in a 4-3 loss.

In the second game UVa-Wise picked up from the last game as they scored five runs in the first three innings. The visitors would hold on to their lead to win 5-1. Nick Farrell drove in the lone run for the Falcons with a triple in the fourth inning.

Junior transfer James Holle would finish out the game on the mound for NDC, going three innings without allowing any runs.

Lukas Thompson improved his batting average to .319 after recording three hits in seven at bats on the day.

Notre Dame will host Concord tomorrow at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio in a doubleheader that is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
