WALSH, Ohio – Walsh University's tough defense did not make it easy for Notre Dame College to score, as the Falcons fell 16-5 on Wednesday afternoon.
The game was tied three times in the first 11 minutes of the game. The Falcons got their first two goals from freshman
Selena Carter and they knotted the game at three after a free position goal by junior
Taylor Henderson with 19:57 remaining before halftime.
Walsh did not allow NDC to score the rest of the half and went on a 6-0 run. They were able to get two of the six goals from Jenny Spragg.
At halftime, the Falcons trailed WU by a score of 9-3. For the Cavaliers, Spragg had three goals, Sarah McCormick two goals and three assists and Emma Armour recorded one goal and two assists in the first half.
In the second half, Walsh scored four times before NDC put back-to-back goals on the scoreboard. Sophomore
Blaike Windsor put the ball in the back of the net and then freshman
Emily Thomson scored the second goal.
WU scored the final three goals of the game.
"Although losses are tough, I am encouraged with the talent and effort that is being displayed on this young team," said head coach
Pam Jenkins. "When we figure a few things out, this team has the skills and potential of being very good."
For Notre Dame, Carter finished with six draw controls, Henderson won four draw controls and sophomore
Victoria Martin added three. Senior
Bailey Reardon grabbed four ground balls. Freshman
Morgan Belting had 10 saves. NDC won the draw control battle, 14-9.
Spragg had four goals and Armour finished with three goals and two assists. McCormick had three goals, five assists, eight points and four caused turnovers. Walsh totaled 27 ground balls.
Notre Dame will play Lourdes University, at home, on March 19. The game will begin at 4 p.m.
