Lacrosse begins their 2018 season this weekend

Upcoming games: Notre Dame will play Madonna University on February 25 at 1 p.m. and then Millersville University on March 3 at 1 p.m. Both games will be on the road.

Records: Last season, the Falcons had a record of 2-10 and went 0-5 in the Mountain East Conference. In 2017, Madonna finished the season 0-16, while Millersville went 8-9 in 2017.

Coaches Corner: Pam Jenkins is entering her second season as head coach at NDC and Dan Teskey is entering his first season as the head coach at Madonna University. Mia Hall is currently in her seventh season as head coach of the Marauders, holding a career record of 39-45.

Rankings: None of these teams were ranked in the IWLCA Coaches Poll.

Series History: Notre Dame has not played either of these teams in program history.

Noting the Falcons: Last season, the Falcons held the second highest shot percentage in the Mountain East Conference last season, scoring 81 goals with 173 shots for a 47-percent mark. They will have to make up for Darbie Barkman, who graduated after last season. Barkman led the conference with 3.8 goals-per-game, points-per-game with 4.6 and shots-per-game with 7.9. Katherine Elsenbeck returns this season with after scoring seven goals and recording 10 total points with 13 groundballs, last season. Blaike Windsor also returns after scoring nine goals in 2017.

Noting the Crusaders: Madonna scored just 60 goals and held a shot percentage of 29-percent in 2017. The team went 0-14 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and struggled late in games, scoring just 29 goals in the second half all season. Senior Emily Johnson led Madonna in many offensive categories. She scored 24 goals, shooting 45-percent on 53 shots, and totaled 25 points while also earning 31 draw controls. Another senior who has now graduated is Stephanie Mackley, the goal keeper, who had 180 saves and 39 groundballs. Katie Larabell returns after scoring seven goals last season and had 26 ground balls.

Noting the Marauders: Millersville finished the campaign with a 5-7 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Marauders did struggle away from their home field, holding a 1-7 record on the road. MU scored 176 goals and held a shot percentage of 44-percent. The Marauders converted when they got close to the goal as they held a 72-percent shots-on-goal percentage. Sabrina Fusco led the team in goals with 44, points with 60 and shots with 94. She is returning for her senior season. Sarah Leverentz, a freshman last season, led the team in shot percentage (57-percent) and draw controls (51).
