GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Notre Dame College baseball team lost both its games on Monday afternoon. The Falcons had a close 5-3 game against Davis & Elkins to start the day, which was followed by a 25-12 loss to Tusculum.
In game one, the Falcons got on the board first against the Senators with a
Nick Ely single that brought in
Drake May. NDC scored in the first inning in each of their first three games this season. Davis & Elkins responded in the next inning with three runs and added another in the fifth and seventh innings to go up 5-1.
In the seventh inning, May hit a double after
Austin Barnhart singled to put runners on second and third.
Adam Purdy drove in Barnhart as the next up to bat. Purdy stole his third base of the season and advanced to third on a wild pitch to put himself in scoring position.
Zach Santoro hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the Falcons' third run of the game. Both teams failed to score in the final two innings.
The Tusculum offense had things flowing from the start with a four-run first inning and despite NDC putting up 12 runs, the Pioneers kept their bats hot. The Falcons scored three runs in the second inning to make it a one-run game, but the home team scored one in the bottom of the inning to increase its lead again. Tusculum put up 11 runs in the third and fourth inning and another nine in the sixth and seventh before things dried up.
Notre Dame scored seven runs of their own between the sixth and seventh innings and posted another two in the ninth, but failed to catch up.
Redshirt freshman
Lukas Thompson earned his first career start in the final game of the trip in right field. Thompson recorded two hits and two walks that resulted in three scores.
Notre Dame will travel to Indianapolis next week to play two games against the University of Indianapolis and one game against Quincy. The three games will be played Friday through Sunday, starting February 23.
