WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - A 1-0 win for the Notre Dame College women's soccer team at West Liberty put them as the clear front runners in the Mountain East North Division on Sunday after Fairmont State lost to Charleston. The Falcons now have 18 points compared to FSU's 13 as the teams crossed the midway point of regular season conference play.
A heavy dose of offense propelled NDC to it's win against the Hilltoppers. The Falcons out shot their hosts 17-7, and took five more shots on goal than their counterparts. But it was an first-half goal, in the 27th minute, that pushed Notre Dame into victory.
Katarina Doncevic recover a shot taken by
Katja Josipovic that ricocheted off a goal post to put her own shot in the net. Josipovic was credited with her first career assist. Doncevic now leads the team with six points on two goals and two assists.
The NDC defense played a strong game, allowing just three shots on goal that were all saved by
Kyra McDowell. McDowell earned her 19th career victory, which is third most all time in the program's history. It was also the Ogden, Utah natives 10th shutout, making her the fourth Falcon to reach the double digit mark in that category.
Notre Dame heads back on the road next week with games at Glenville State on Wednesday, October 10, and at West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday, October 14. Both games are scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
