Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Nine-point shutout breaks NDC DII record

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Nine goals, scored by nine different players, set a new Notre Dame College women's soccer record in the team's 9-0 victory at Glenville State. NDC's nine goals are the most in the program's NCAA Division II history.

After settling into a rhythm, the Falcons scored three goals in between the 10- and 20-minute marks. Saige Ackerman opened things up with her first goal of the season with Alyssa Soltis making the connection. Katja Josipovic then scored on a penalty kick in the 13th minute followed by a Sarah Grossman goal in the 19th.

"I'm happy we took care of business with three quick goal," said head coach Mike Shiels. "That really set the pace for the rest of the game. To pair that offensive performance with a shutout makes it that much better."

Rounding out the first half goals were Katarina Doncevic and Angelica Mazzocca. Doncevic now has three goals on the season while Mazzocca notched her first career goal.

It did not take long for things to get going again in the second half as Norah Barnes scored in the 52nd minute. Both Barnes and Mazzocca's goals were assisted by Alexandria GayleNa'pier RamseyAvery Griffith and Dallas Plewes tacked on the final three goals of the game with Stine Austad assisting Ramsey's goal. The goals for Griffith and Plewes also marked career firsts as four different Falcons were able to accomplish that feat against Glenville State.

The shutout is Kyra McDowell's fifth of the year, just one shy of her six-shutout mark from 2017.

NDC now has an eight-point advantage in the MEC North Division and is tied with West Virginia Wesleyan, the leaders in the South, with 21 points in conference play. Wesleyan will play later tonight, October 10.

Notre Dame and West Virginia Wesleyan are scheduled to compete on Sunday, October 14, in Buckhannon, W.Va. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
