BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The Notre Dame College women's soccer team tied West Virginia Wesleyan 0-0 on Sunday afternoon after the Mountain East Conference's division leaders battled for 110 minutes.
The Bobcats were able to get off 11 shots on goal, and 18 shots overall, but goal keeper
Kyra McDowell saved all 11 shots faced securing a tie for the Falcons. McDowell's 11 saves ties for seventh most in a single game in Notre Dame's history and marks her career high. The Odgen, Utah native also matched her six shutouts from her freshman season and now ranks third in NDC's career history with 12.
"Kyra gave us the performance we needed tonight and came up with some critical saves," said head coach
Mike Shiels.
Offensively, the Falcons were able to get off 15 shots of their own, with five on goal, against the leagues top defense. Along with McDowell,
Maranda Melton,
Andrea Spinelli,
Lauren Chaney,
Alexandria Gayle and
Sarah Grossman played all 110 minutes of the contest.
"It was a tough fought game and could have gone either way," Shiels said. "I am really pleased with the effort and discipline I saw today."
Notre Dame currently leads the MEC North with 22 points and Fairmont State is second with 14. Both teams have four conference games left and a possible 12 points each on the table, but Notre Dame can secure a first place finish in the North Division with a win in two of their final four competitions.
The Falcons will play at home on Thursday, October 18, at 3 p.m. against Shepherd.
