Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | By Jacob Bunner

No. 15 NDC holds West Liberty scoreless in their ninth win of the season

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – On Sunday afternoon, one goal in the 47th minute was enough to put No. 15 Notre Dame College on top of West Liberty University in a 1-0 road victory.

Although the Falcons took 10 shots and four shots-on-goal in the first half, NDC could not put one into the net. They came close with less than a minute to go before the half. Junior Arthur Favero put a corner kick into position but a header shot from senior David Perez Torralba hit the post. This game was Torralba's first contest since he went down with an injury on September 5.

West Liberty, who has been shutout in seven games this season, made the Falcons' junior goalkeeper Daniele De Angelis work hard. Both of the saves De Angelis recorded today, came in the opening half.

"West Liberty is a well-coached and hard-working team," head coach Carl Nolan said. "For a first year program they are very well organized and make for a difficult opponent."

Just two minutes into the second half, NDC scored the only goal of the contest when a cross from Favero entered the box, in front of Guilherme Gloria Albuquerque. Albuquerque headed the ball into the goal for his fifth goal of the season and his second game-winning goal of the year.

That one goal would be all the Falcons would need. The Hilltoppers took only one shot in the second half.

"We told the team to match their energy and motivation," said Nolan. "The field is a challenge, but the same for both teams, so the aim was to compete, win and keep driving forward. The players played a good game today and earned a well-deserved 3 points."

For West Liberty, Jack Osborne took two of the three West Liberty shots. Goalkeeper Florian Dupuis grabbed five saves.

The Falcons will come home to play a non-conference matchup against Daemen College on October 9. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
