ASHLAND, Ohio - Two headers found their way past the goal line for Ashland (4-3-1) in to defeat the Notre Dame College women's soccer program. The Falcons (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season in their lone nonconference game of 2017. 

The Eagles were the first to score with a header from Morgan Bittengle off a corner kick attempt in the 11th minute of the game. Bittengle led her team with five shot attempts throughout the game. 

NDC had multiple attempts in the remainder of the first half, taking five shots on goal, but couldn't get anything past Ashland goalkeeper Abby Lampe. In the second half, the Falcons struggled to get much going on the offensive end, but made their one chance count. 

Alexis Manoa got loose in the 77th minute, getting past most of the Eagles' defenders to tie the game up 1-1. Manoa's goal was just the fourth unassisted goal of the season for Notre Dame. 

With the game headed towards overtime, Korinna Lakes scored a goal for Ashland with 1:45 left to play. Lakes, like Bittengle was able to get her head on the ball to just miss the save attempt by Kyra McDowell. 

Head coach Mike Shiels took the best away from the first loss of the season, looking forward to the next game. 

"I'm disappointed in the result, but happy with the effort," Shiels said. "We needed a couple more big moments and just came up short. On the road against a good Ashland team was fun and it answered some questions. We're excited to get back at it and get things back on track for the weekend."

Notre Dame will return to conference play on Saturday, September 30 at Shepherd. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
