SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The Notre Dame College volleyball team (5-6) went 1-1 on the first day of the Notre Dame College Invitational on Friday. The Falcons won the first game of the day against Salem International, but later lot to Indiana University (Pa.). Both games were decided in three sets.
In game one the Falcons out-performed the Tigers in all major statistical categories, including kills (42-31), aces (6-3) and digs (44-41). NDC stayed efficient offensively, scoring 52 of their awarded 75 points with an attack percentage of .280.
Notre Dame excelled in the second set with an attack percentage of .462 with 15 kills to just three errors.
Melissa Maczuzak and
Natalie Spadaro led the Falcons offensively with 15 and eight kills, respectively.
Mary Kate McHugh and
Erin Daugherty made the best of their attempts with a combined 10 kills on 18 tries.
Ali Kaeberlein led the team with nine digs while Maczuzak and
Riley Coleman each had eight.
Paige Staudacher set well for NDC finishing with 31 assists.
In the second game of the day, Indiana met up against the Notre Dame for the second time in 2017. Both times resulted in a 3-0 victory for the Crimson Hawks.
Maczuzak and Spadaro shined again, leading the team with 12 and 8 kills. McHugh added five kills of her own while the rest of the Falcons added five. Without everyone firing, NDC struggled to get in a rhythm ending with a team attack percentage of .114.
Once again, Staudacher led the team with 27 assists while Maczuzak had 10 digs.
Notre Dame will play the first and final matches of the NDC Invite tomorrow, September 16 at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
