NDC drops two more to Fairmont State

FAIRMONT, W. Va. – Notre Dame College's tough weekend continued on Sunday afternoon, when they lost both games against Fairmont State University, 4-3, in eight innings, and 6-4.

The Falcons (15-18 overall, 7-11 MEC) have now lost four consecutive games and six straight road games. For the Fighting Falcons (13-19, 6-8 MEC) the two wins represent their second conference sweep of the year, as well as, putting an end their two game losing streak.

Game 1

In the bottom of the third inning, Taylor Olson gave up her first hit of the game, as Taylor Wells hit a leadoff single. Olivia Dunn then singled on a bunt and they both moved over with a sacrifice bunt by Whitley Mongan. Later in the inning, Samantha Hoban doubled to left-center, putting FSU up 2-0.

In the sixth inning, NDC took their first lead of the game. Nicole Luciano and Kathryn Smith hit back-to-back doubles, scoring one run. Four batters later, Perris Stevens singled to right-center, scoring Smith, to tie the game. Halli Swiger walked and then Erin Calhoun reached on a fielder' choice as Amy Hoover was out at home. With two outs, the Falcons went up 3-2 when Emily Kusmits singled up the middle.

Fairmont State fought back in their last at bat, however. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Wells singled and moved to second on a groundout to the pitcher. Mongan singled up the middle, with two outs, scoring Wells and tying the game at three.

Notre Dame had runners on first and second base but could not score in the top of the eighth inning. FSU scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to win the game. The second batter that stepped to the plate, Addie Fullen, hit a walk-off homer to left field.
