NDC struggles with the Bobcats

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – Notre Dame College allowed 11 goals in both halves and could not keep up with West Virginia Wesleyan College as they lost the road game, 22-10, on Friday night.

The Falcons (2-5 overall, 0-1 MEC) lose their first conference game of the year and fall to 1-3 on the road, this season. With the win, the Bobcats (2-7, 1-0 MEC) end a six game losing streak and get their first win since March 4.

In the first half, WVWC scored the first three goals, but Katherine Elsenbeck kept the Falcons in the game as she scored the next two goals. By the 21:16-mark, the Bobcats led 3-2.

Wesleyan led by three goals throughout most of the first half, but NDC did cut the deficit to two, 7-5, when Darbie Barkman put the ball in the back of the net with 11:25 remaining.

The Bobcats took an 11-5 lead into the halftime break. For the Falcons, Elsenbeck had three goals while the team was 3-for-3 on clear attempts and won seven draw controls. For West Virginia Wesleyan, Madison Duvall scored three goals and the team took 27 shots and scooped up 10 groundballs.

To start the second half, the Bobcats went on a 9-2 run, putting themselves on top, 20-7. During the offensive explosion, Kim Lubic had four goals.

With 11:20 remaining in the game, the Falcons started their 3-2 run as Blaike Windsor scored her only goal of the game, but the rally was too late.

NDC took 16 shots and grabbed eight groundballs. Ashlee Boyko and Barkman both had two goals in the game, while Windsor caused two turnovers. Boyko also had an assist.

For Wesleyan, six players scored double-digit goals. Natalie Shaffner and Lubic took, a combined, 21 shots. As a team, the Bobcats took 44 shots in the game and won 21 draw controls.

The Falcons will not play again until next Saturday, April 15, as they will travel to Shepherdstown, W. Va. to play Shepherd University. The game is scheduled to start at 1 pm.
