Falcons cannot stop Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W. Va. – Notre Dame College tied the game early but let it slip away, against the number one team in the Mountain East Conference, falling to Wheeling Jesuit University, 20-5 on Sunday afternoon.

The loss for the Falcons (2-9 overall, 0-4 MEC) is their sixth consecutive defeat and fourth straight road loss. The Cardinals (7-7, 4-0 MEC) have now won four straight games and are 5-1 in their previous six games.

Elizabeth Hales scored the first goal of the game for Wheeling Jesuit at the 28-minute mark, but NDC quickly responded with a goal by Darbie Barkman to tie the game at one goal.

The Cardinals went on an 11-0 run after goal by Barkman and Notre Dame's Blaike Windsor was able to stop the bleeding with a goal at the 9:30-mark, closing the deficit to ten, 12-2.

Wheeling Jesuit led, 14-3 at the end of the first half. Wheeling took 23 shots, 19 shots on goal, in the half. The Falcons took nine shots and won five draw controls.

WJU scored the first two goals of the second half and would go on to outscore Notre Dame, 6-2, in the half.

For the Falcons, Barkman and Windsor both had two goals. As a team, Notre Dame took 21 shots and scooped up 15 groundballs in the game.

The Cardinals had 13 players who scored at least one goal. Hales scored five goals and had six assists. Kori Hickman had two goals and four assists and Olivia Krock added three goals. The team took 32 shots, 27 shots on goal, and won 19 draw controls.

NDC will finish the regular season, and celebrate Senior Day, as they take on the University of Charleston, at home, on Sunday, April 30. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
