SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College stuck with the University of Charleston at halftime, trailing by three goals, but UC put eight goals on the board in the second half, defeating NDC, 18-9 on Saturday evening.
The Falcons (2-10 overall, 0-5 MEC), who celebrated senior day before the contest, finished their regular season, losing their last seven games. The win for the Golden Eagles (4-11, 1-4 MEC) snapped their five game losing streak and was their first conference win.
Darbie Barkman scored the first goal of the game for Notre Dame within the first thirty seconds of action. Charleston quickly scored three goals, two of which came from Emma Renda.
Down 3-1, NDC retook the lead with a 3-0 run beginning with 20:42 remaining with a goal by Barkman. Barkman had another goal before
Ashlee Boyko put the ball in the back of the net, giving the Falcons a 4-3 lead.
UC scored seven of the final 10 goals in the first half, taking a 10-7 lead at the break. The two teams nearly took the same amount of shots with Charleston taking 18 and Notre Dame taking 17 in the first half. NDC won 12 draw controls and the Golden Eagles took six draw controls.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles scored the first seven goals, going up by 11 goals (18-7) at the 10:35-mark. Notre Dame's Barkman and Caitlyn Howard scored goals for Notre Dame with less than ten minutes remaining in the game.
Charleston took 18 shots and 10 shots on goal in the second half. The team took 36 shots in the game. They won eight draw controls in the second half.
The Falcons only won two draw controls in the second half. NDC grabbed 10 groundballs in the game. Barkman had five goals while Boyko had three goals and one assist.
