NDC loses to Virginia-Wise

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College could not stay with the University of Virginia-Wise in the second half, as they lost 22-3 at home, on Friday afternoon.

The Falcons (2-8 overall, 0-3 MEC) have lost five in a row, overall and have lost three consecutive home games. The Cavaliers (9-4, 2-1 MEC) are 5-3 in their last eight games.

Virginia-Wise opened the game with the first three goals, before Darbie Barkman put the ball in the back of the net, with 22:49 remaining in the first half, making it a 3-1 Wise lead.

The Cavaliers went on a 7-1 run to end the first half, following the Barkman goal. Virginia-Wise led Notre Dame, 10-2 at the halftime break.

The second half was dominated by Wise. NDC was able to score one goal, which came from Ashlee Boyko at the 23:05-mark. Sydney Steinberg scored four goals for the Cavaliers in the half.

For NDC, Boyko had two goals in the game. As a team, Notre Dame took 10 shots in the first half, but were held to only four shots in the second half. The Falcons were 10-for-14 in clear opportunities and grabbed 10 draw controls.

Along with Steinberg's four goals, Catherine Dina, Kristin Gobbi and Ashley Wells all scored three goals for Virginia-Wise. The Cavaliers took 34 shots, 26 shots on goal, along with getting 18 draw controls.

Notre Dame will travel to Wheeling Jesuit University and play on Sunday, April 23. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
