CLERMONT, Fla. – The Notre Dame Falcons were held to three hits, in their 7-0 loss to the Ursuline College Arrows, as the Arrows' Gina Rosshirt pitched a complete game shutout.
Ursuline did not waste any time, taking the lead in the top of the first inning. The Arrows had bases loaded when Brittany Humbel hit a sacrifice fly to center field. All the runners moved up a base and Kaitlin Krajcik scored. Brigitte Snow hit a two run double and then Rosie Lyard capped the five run inning with a two-run homer to center field.
With two outs in the second inning, Ursuline got three consecutive singles from their 3-4-5 hitters. Snow's base hit plated the Arrow's sixth run of the game.
Snow homered to left field in the seventh inning with one out, to give Ursuline a 7-0 run.
The Falcons had a few chances to score during the contest. In the bottom of the second inning,
Maria Vanadia was hit by a pitch,
Emily Kusmits singled and
Perris Stevens reached on an error to load the bases with no outs. But then NDC had a fly out and back-to-back fielder's choices, squandering the chance.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, NDC had runners on second and third with two outs, but did not get a run across the plate.
The Falcons' starting pitcher,
Rachelle Miller (0-1) lost her first start of the year, giving up six runs in four innings. Offensively, the Falcons only had one hitter with a multi-hit game and that was Kusmits, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
Rosshirt (2-3) went seven innings for Ursuline, walking three and striking out two. Snow went 3-for-4 with four RBI, a double and a home run.
The Falcons will look to get their first win of the year tomorrow, as they play St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, at 1 p.m., in Clermont, Fla.
