SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons were able to start their season with a 22-3 victory over the Potomac State College Catamounts, on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons were able to give first-year Head coach,
Pam Jenkins, her first win at Notre Dame. The Catamounts (0-1 overall), who went 2-8 last season, struggled to get the ball on their side of the field against the Falcons defense.
Potomac State scored the first goal of the game. Quincy Oram was able to get draw control and then, nearly two minutes into the game, Oram was able to score the first goal of the season.
The Falcons would then put together a major offensive run, scoring the next 11 goals, with four coming from
Darbie Barkman. Barkman, also, put the first three Falcons' goals in the back of the net.
At the halftime break, Notre Dame led by 14 goals, 16-2. Notre Dame took 24 shots in the first half, while Potomac turned the ball over nine times. Barkman had six goals,
Ashlee Boyko and
Katherine Elsenbeck both had three goals.
In the second half, the Falcons scored the first four goals. The Catamounts ended the Falcons run, as they were able to get their only goal of the second stanza, at the 12:49-mark.
NDC would score the final two goals of the game before time expired.
For the game, Barkman had seven goals and five assists for NDC. Boyko and Elsenbeck both had four goals. Boyko had three assists. The Falcons had 31 shots in the game. The Falcons had three successful clears.
Oram had two goals for Potomac State. The Catamounts finished with 10 turnovers and took six shots, as a team.
The Falcons will travel to Painesville, Ohio to play Lake Erie College on March 5. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
