URBANA, Ohio – Notre Dame College falls to Urbana University by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday night as the Blue Knights got 42 kills and had an attack percentage of .313, on offense.
The Falcons (13-19, 4-11 MEC) scored six of the first eight points in the initial set. NDC led until Urbana (18-14, 10-4) put together a 5-0 run, which included three kills by Katlynn Dunlap, and took a 13-11 advantage. The two teams went back-and-forth before UU, down 16-15, scored six consecutive points to go on top 21-16. They would not allow the lead to slip and beat the Falcons, 25-19.
In the second set, Urbana scored the first five points and NDC had to take a timeout. Notre Dame worked their way back and tied the game at 12. Later in the set, the Falcons were down 16-14 but then scored the next four points with two kills, an ace and an attack error.
"We just played more consistent and stayed in system a lot more," said head coach
Troy Haught, regarding the comeback late in the set.
The Falcons could not hold onto the lead, however. They would lead 19-18 but the Blue Knights scored the last seven points to win by a final score of 25-19.
Urbana dominated the third set. After NDC scored the first point, Urbana went on an 11-1 run. After a kill by Katlynn Dunlap, later in the set, the Blue Knights led 17-4. Notre Dame tried to put a few runs together but ultimately fell in the third set, 25-14.
"Tonight our serve receive was off so we weren't able to mix it up as we planned, but we had some great hustle plays," Haught said.
For Notre Dame, sophomore
Mary Kate McHugh had 11 kills and 11.5 points to go along with a .321 attack percentage. Senior
Melissa Maczuzak had seven kills and nine points and sophomore
Ali Kaeberlein added 11 digs. Sophomore
Paige Staudacher put up 21 assists.
Katlynn Dunlap had 13 kills, 13 digs, 14.5 points and an attack percentage of .313. Anna Davis recorded 20 assists and Courtney Niesen added 11 digs.
The Falcons end their regular season with a home game against No. 21 Wheeling Jesuit University on November 10. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
