SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College looked strong in the first half but allowed three goals in the second half to the No.1 University of Charleston, who continue to roll with a 3-0 victory.
The Falcons (6-4, 4-3 MEC) four losses this season have all come to ranked opponents. This is the second time this season that NDC lost to Charleston by a score of 3-0. The Golden Eagles (11-0, 7-0) have recorded eight shutouts already this season. Their last conference loss came on October 12, 2016.
Both teams played a very a close first half, with the defense playing well on both sides. The first shot in the game did not come until the eighth minute when Patrick Guier sent a shot on goal toward sophomore goalkeeper
Daniele De Angelis, who grabbed the ball.
The best chance for either team came from senior, and Offensive Player of the Week,
Leonardo Paiva who saw his header bounce off of the crossbar and then over the net. Thomas Vancaeyezeele also had a good chance for UC as his shot went just wide following a corner kick Kieran Bywater.
The second half involved a lot of fouls as both teams became very physical. In the 51st minute, Armando Tikvic sent a corner kick into the penalty box for Charleston. The ball was deflected a few times and then headed into the goal by Williams N'Dah, assisted by Will Roberts.
The Golden Eagles did not stop there as Roberts then scored in the 63rd minute, with an assist by Sam Bethell. Finally, with eight minutes to play in the game, Roberts received a long pass from Vancaeyezeele and won the one-on-one battle with De Angelis to score his second goal of the game, and seventh of the season, putting Charleston up 3-0.
Both goal keepers, De Angelis and Paulo Pita made three saves. Paiva had two shots on goal and freshman Marcus Thorberg had one shot on goal for NDC. The Golden Eagles had 11 shots in the game and had six that were on goal.
