SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The Notre Dame College volleyball team (12-15) fell in three sets to Charleston (11-12) on Friday evening after failing to get offensive momentum.
In each of the first two sets, Charleston went up 21-9 before a late push from the Falcons. Those sets both ended in scores of 25-16. In the third set, NDC was primed to win. After falling behind 17-10, the Falcons a 22-21 lead before the Golden Eagles finished with a 25-23 victory.
Notre Dame had an attack percentage of .041, its lowest in conference play this season. The Falcons ended with 34 kills and were led by senior
Melissa Maczuzak with 13.
"We served really aggressively, we just couldn't get our offense going," said head coach
Troy Haught.
Defensively, however, the Falcons played well according to Haught. Sophomore libero,
Ali Kaeberlein, led the team with 14 digs.
"I thought our defense was very solid tonight," Haught said. "Ali and
Riley Coleman had a great night along with everyone else in back row."
The defense was a major reason the Falcons nearly won the third set as the Golden Eagles had an attack percentage of just .093. Despite the loss, NDC had more kills than its opponent, likely due to that solid performance.
Notre Dame will host West Virginia State tomorrow, October 28 at 1 p.m.
