URBANA, Ohio – Under the lights, Urbana University scored twice in the second half and beat Notre Dame College 2-0, on Wednesday night.
The Falcons (11-5, 8-4 MEC) saw their five game winning streak come to a halt and NDC's streak of nine consecutive halves without allowing a goal ended in the second half of tonight's game. The Blue Knights (9-6, 7-4) split the season series (1-1) with the win after losing to Notre Dame 1-0 on September 27.
Matt Wheeler of UU had a header shot that went over the top of the goal in the 14th minute. The Blue Knights also took the first shot on goal of the contest as Thibaut Bourrier took a chance that was saved by sophomore
Daniele De Angelis in the 25th minute. The Falcons shot on goal of the first half came from senior
Leonardo Paiva in the 44th minute, and it was saved.
In the first half, NDC took four shots while Urbana took six shots.
The Blue Knights grabbed the lead in the 63rd minute as the ball was crossed into the penalty box, headed once to the right side and then put into the goal by Antoine Ravera, his seventh goal of the season. Wheeler and Jacob Wischmeier each had an assist on the play.
The Falcons had chances to tie the game, especially in the 67th minute. Paiva took a penalty kick that was saved by goalkeeper Daniel McNicholas and a couple seconds later, junior
Reece Daly took a shot that was also saved by McNicholas.
Urbana put the final goal on the scoreboard as Wischmeier scored his third goal of 2017 in the 84th minute on a cross in the box from Ravera.
McNicholas ended up making five saves for Urbana and the Blue Knights took four shots on goal.
Notre Dame took nine shots and five of them were on goal. Paiva took four shots on goal, but was shutout for just the third time in his last nine contests.
The Falcons will wrap up the regular season with a game at a neutral site against Northern Michigan University on October 28. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
