NDC earns a victory in Shepherdstown

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Notre Dame College beat Shepherd University 3-1 on Saturday afternoon, holding Shepherd to two shots in the game.

The Falcons (6-3, 4-2 MEC) have won two games in a row and have been victorious in three of their last four games. The win on Saturday was their first road victory since September 10. The Rams' (0-9-1, 0-5) struggles continue as they have scored two goals in the last five games and their only tie this season came on September 2 at Pitt-Johnstown.

The two teams both had opportunities in the first 22 minutes of action, as freshman Sam Morgan and Leonardo Paiva took shots for NDC and Alejandro Oliart set up for a corner and Justin Marshall put a shot wide right for Shepherd.

Notre Dame struck first as Morgan put a header in the back of the net in the 29th minute. Sophomore Mats Jota was credited with the assist following his corner kick. Immediately after the goal, NDC had two shots on goal that did not find their way past goalkeeper Jacob Clemens.

Following the halftime break, the Falcons scored quickly as Jota put the Falcons up 2-0 in the 48th minute, assisted by sophomore Lewis Norvock. That goal turned out to be the game winner.

Between the 50th minute and the 75th minute, the Falcons were in control, taking four shots.

However, with just under 15 minutes to play, Justin Daniels had Shepherd's only goal, and Marshall was given the assist.

In the 84th minute, senior Leonardo Paiva gave the Falcons an insurance goal, putting NDC up 3-1 as Norvock helped out with his second assist of the day.

For the Falcons, Paiva took three shots on goal before converting on his final attempt. Morgan and Jota, each, scored their first goal of the season.

The Rams' only shot on goal resulted in a goal and on the defensive side, Clements had four saves.

Notre Dame will play the No. 1 University of Charleston, at home, on October 5. The game is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m.
