Notre Dame captures their third straight shutout win

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College was able to defeat Shepherd University 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon, after sophomore Guilherme Gloria Albuquerque came up big with two goals in the second half, his first career multi goal game.

The Falcons (10-4, 7-3 MEC) have now won four consecutive games and have shutout an opponent seven times. This is the 11th consecutive season that NDC has reached double-digit wins in a campaign. The Rams (0-14-1, 0-9) have now been shutout eight times in 2017. They have lost 14 straight games after finishing their first regular season game in a tie.

In the first half of the game, the Falcons took three shots before they converted on a goal. Senior Leonardo Paiva scored his 12th goal of the season in the 18th minute as he worked hard to get through defenders in the penalty box. Paiva now has five game winning goals this season.

Throughout the rest of the half, Notre Dame had multiple chances to score, including two additional shots by Paiva that hit the crossbar and the post.

"Today's score line was pleasing as it reflected the possession we maintained and the shots on goal we took," head coach Carl Nolan said.

NDC was still aggressive in the second half as they took three shots, two shots on goal, in the first 11 minutes of the half. Freshman Leo Ceruti put Notre Dame up two scores with his first career goal in the 69th minute. Paiva had the assist as he was able to cross the ball through the box, placing it perfectly for Ceruti.

In the 72nd minute, Albuquerque scored his first goal of the day with another good look in front of the net. The assist was credited to freshman Javier Mate.

The 80th minute brought about Notre Dame's fourth goal, and Albuquerque's second, of the contest.  Albuquerque now has three goals on the season.

"In the second half, I think our rotation of players helped as it provided us fresh legs throughout the 45 minutes and allowed us to keep pressing Shepherd, which led to goals," said Nolan.

Notre Dame took 24 shots and 11 shots on goal, in the game. Paiva took nine shots and had three points while Albuquerque took four shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Daniele De Angelis did not have to record a single save.

"The defense remained composed and made simple decisions again, which made life easier for our midfielders. They did this particularly well in the 2nd half," Nolan mentioned.

Three players took a shot for the Rams. Goalkeeper Jacob Clements recorded seven saves.

The Falcons will play West Virginia Wesleyan, at home, on October 22. The game is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m.
