ATHENS, W.Va. - The Notre Dame College women's soccer team lost its first game ever to Concord University on Thursday afternoon. The Mountain Lions (7-6) were able to defeat the Falcons (9-3-1) 4-2 on their home pitch.
Concord went up 1-0 in the first half and scored again in the second half to gain a 2-0 lead before junior forward
Brooke LeForce was able to score for NDC to cut the lead in half. The next two goals of the game were scored by Courtney Wallace to increase the Mountain Lions lead to 4-1. Both of Wallace's goals were assisted by Morgan Carmichael.
The Falcons were able to score again, later in the game, with a goal from
Jackie Corrigan in the 84th minute, but there wasn't enough time to complete the comeback. Corrigan's goal is her seventh of the season, which leads the team and will likely lead the MEC after the day is over.
Concord was able to take advantage offensively, taking 18 shots overall and 11 on goal, compared to the Falcons eight shots and five on goal. The Mountain Lions defense held NDC to just one shot in the first half.
Notre Dame will play at Fairmont State on Sunday, October 15 at 2 p.m.
