SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College women's lacrosse team lost to the visiting Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals in Mountain East Conference action on Friday afternoon, falling by a final score of 17-6 at Normandy Field.
Darbie Barkman led the Falcons with three goals in the game while
Brooke Czarnecki,
Ashlee Boyko and
Darbie Barkman each added one goal a piece.
The visiting Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead early, but the Falcons proved resilient. With 20:08 remaining in the first half, Barkman scored NDC's opening goal, with the assist from Boyko, to cut the deficit to 3-1.
After WJU added a quick pair of goals, the Falcons returned the favor on offense as NDC scored two goals within 30 seconds; Boyko scored the first goal before Barkman scored another goal of her own, assisted by
Bailey Reardon, to bring the score to 5-3 midway through the first half.
However, that's as close as the Falcons would come as the Cardinals escaped with a 17-6 victory over NDC.
With the loss, the Falcons fall to 5-4 on the season, including a 1-2 mark in MEC play.
The Falcons return to action on Sunday, April 10 on the road at Virginia-Wise in another MEC showdown. Game time is scheduled for 11 AM on Sunday.
