SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – In their final home game of the 2016 season, the Notre Dame Falcons fell to the Shepherd Rams, 19-6 on Friday afternoon at Normandy Field.
For the Falcons (5-6, 1-4 MEC) the loss was their third in a row, while the victory for the Rams (5-8, 3-1 MEC) snapped a three-game losing streak.
It was a tough afternoon for the Falcons, who played shorthanded throughout the entire contest, playing with only 11 due to injuries.
The Rams were able to take advantage early on, as they scored four goals in the first four minutes of the contest. This was all part of a 7-1 run for Shepherd to open up the game, and they developed that six goal lead in just under 13 minutes.
Notre Dame's lone goal during that stretch came from
Brooke Czarnecki, who led the Falcons with five in the contest. Czarnecki scored all four of NDC's goals in the opening period, but the Rams outshot the Falcons, 30-11 in the opening stanza, and developed a 12-4 lead going into halftime.
Unfortunately for the Falcons, things didn't change much in the second period, where they were held to just a pair of goals, and the Rams finished the contest by scoring the final four goals of the game over the last 14 minutes.
In her final game at Normandy Field, Czarnecki led the Falcons with five goals, marking her sixth game of the season with five goals or more. She also added four ground balls and three draw controls.
Darbie Barkman had NDC's other goal, and added a pair of ground balls to go along with three draw controls.
Halie Taylor finished the game with an assist, while
Bailey Reardon came away with four ground balls.
Vanessa Delano caused a pair of turnovers, and added three ground balls. In her first game in goal this season,
Kait Shannon came away with 12 saves.
The Falcons will finish the regular season on the road on Saturday, April 23, when they square off against Charleston (WV) in Mountain East Conference action.
