Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons hosted their 2016 home opener against Lake Erie College on Sunday afternoon, but fell to the Storm, 18-7 at Normandy Field.
The Falcons (1-1) fell for the first time this season, after opening the year with a win over Missouri Valley six days ago, while the victory for the Storm (1-0) came in their season opener.
Lake Erie took control in the early stages of the game, and used a big first period to pave their way to a victory. The Storm led the Falcons, 10-1 after one period of play, and they were able to use that incredible start to stay ahead for the rest of the contest.
In the second half, the Falcons went on a little run, scoring three of the first four goals of the period, getting goals from
Darbie Barkman,
Victoria Martin and
Brooke Czarnecki during that stretch, with
Ashlee Boyko assisting on two of those.
The aforementioned run brought the Falcons back within seven (11-4), but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way. After Czarnecki's goal at the 23:51-mark, the Storm went on to score seven of the game's next eight goals to pull away.
Four different Falcons scored goals on the day, and Barkman led the way with three, while Czarnecki added a pair. Boyko and Martin had NDC's other two goals, and Boyko added a pair of assists. Boyko and
Kait Shannon caused a pair of turnovers, and Boyko led the way for the Falcons with three ground balls.
Lauren Ragsdale had seven saves.
The Falcons will be in action again on Friday, March 11, when they play host to Ursuline College at Normandy Field. The contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
