BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Notre Dame Falcons saw a late rally fall a few goals short on Sunday afternoon, as they dropped the MEC regular season finale against West Virginia Wesleyan, 16-12. 

The Falcons (2-7, 1-4 MEC) saw their losing streak extend to four with the loss, while the Bobcats (11-4, 3-2) have now won four of their last five games. 

The Bobcats used a hot start to build a big lead, and they never trailed at any point in the contest. They scored the first goal just a minute and a half into the contest, before Brooke Czarnecki scored a few minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. 

West Virginia Wesleyan responded by scoring four consecutive goals over the next nine minutes of the contest, and had a 5-1 lead with 16:18 to play. Czarnecki and Halie Taylor scored goals for NDC over the next five minutes, as the Falcons trailed, 6-3, with 11:25 left in the first period, before the Bobcats scored the next five goals to take a commanding, 11-3 lead, and they were up 11-4 halfway through the contest. 

The second half was much different, as Notre Dame outscored the Bobcats, 8-5. WV Wesleyan scored three of the first four goals of the half, to take a 14-5 lead, their largest of the game, before the Falcons caught fire. 

Notre Dame went on a 7-2 run over the final 20 minutes of the contest, and scored the last four goals inside the five minute mark, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit. 

Czarnecki led the way for the Falcons offensively, on a day where four Falcons scored goals. She finished the game with a  team high, six goals, to go along with five ground balls. Darbie Barkman scored a trio of goals and had a pair of caused turnovers, while Taylor scored a pair of goals and Caitlin Howard scored once as well.
