Dominant performance

Great all around effort pushes NDC past Urbana

Box Score
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons used an all around dominant performance at Normandy Field on Tuesday evening to come away with a convincing, 20-4 victory over Urbana.

For the Falcons (4-5) the victory was their second in a row at home, their second in their last here overall, and marked a new season high for goals in a game, while for the Blue Knights (1-4) the loss comes on the heels of their first victory of the season.

Notre Dame wasted no time getting started, as they scored four of the first six goals in the opening 10 minutes of the contest, getting two of those from Allison Merten who ended up with a pair of assists in the contest as well.

Leading 4-2 just 10 minutes in, the Falcons continued to pour it on, as they scored the next five goals over an 11-minute stretch, getting three from Madalyn Dewling and a pair from Kristen Hull to take a commanding 9-2 lead.

Defensively, the Falcons smothered the Blue Knights in the opening half, as they allowed just three first half shots, and forced 12 Urbana turnovers.  The Falcons took a 10-3 lead at the break.

As great as the effort was defensively in the first period for NDC, they were even better in the second. Not only did they fire off 13 more shots (17-4), but they made it very difficult for Urbana to take the ball into their offensive zone, as the Blue Knights converted just three of 10 second half clearing attempts.

Six different Falcons scored in the second half, as Notre Dame outscored Urbana, 10-1 in the final 30 minutes of the contest, and the contest was never in doubt.

Notre Dame had seven players score at least once, including five that scored multiple goals in the contest. Dewling led the way for the Falcons with seven goals on the evening, and added as assist. Hull added four goals for NDC while Halie Taylor scored three times, and both Merten and Brooke Czarnecki scored a pair of goals.

The Falcons are in action again on Saturday, April 12, when the hit the road to take on Shepherd, in Shepherdstown, W.Va. The contest is set for an 11 a.m. start.
